You know the adage: work smarter, not harder. In today’s evolving technology landscape, new innovations and programs provide a myriad of opportunities to save time and money while enhancing your business practices. The latest innovation taking the spotlight comes from Microsoft.
While Microsoft has been steadily building artificial intelligence (AI) components into its business software, the new Microsoft 365 Copilot uses AI to take business and personal productivity to the next level.
Introducing the new product in a September 2023 post on the official Microsoft blog, Corporate Vice President & Consumer Chief Marketing Officer Yusuf Mehdi wrote, “Copilot will uniquely incorporate the context and intelligence of the web, your work data and what you are doing in the moment on your PC to provide better assistance – with your privacy and security at the forefront.”
Microsoft began releasing early forms of Copilot on Sept. 26 as part of its free update to Windows 11. The program will also be incorporated across Bing, Edge and Microsoft 365 Copilot.
Christopher Miller, ATB Technologies Vice President, learned more about Copilot’s capabilities during a recent IT conference, and said it’s a game-changer for employee efficiency and automation.
“Copilot enables a company to streamline employee actions,” he said. “The AI will suggest next steps based on your company’s specifics. For example, if you’re using Microsoft Dynamics 365 ERP (enterprise resource planning) software, the employee can start inputting data, and the AI knows what you’re trying to do and will give you options moving forward. It can read a ticket and prompt what needs to happen next using your company’s own checklist.”
Miller said using AI like Copilot can build efficiencies into communication and eliminate waste.
“Actions that would have taken four or five emails and employee time are now automated and much shorter,” he said. “It’s not something that’s going to replace jobs, but it enhances the job experience, taking care of repetitive tasks that people don’t like to do.”
In short, Microsoft says its Copilot can “complete tasks with ease and lessens your cognitive load – making once-complicated tasks simple.”
